10. The Badlands Guardian
In southeastern Alberta, Canada is a geological feature that, when viewed from above, looks like something far beyond the grooves in the valley that it's made from. Known as the badlands guardian, it looks just like a human wearing a headdress- the surprising thing is, though, that this hasn't been carved by human hands at all.

The increasing clarity provided by satellite imagery has become an invaluable tool for researchers and archaeologists around the world, and are particularly useful for exploring hard to reach areas. As images on Google Earth showed in 2008, on the side of the 5,000-foot high Colletto Fava mountain, in northern Italy, lay a 200-foot long pink rabbit.

6. The Lost City of Tanis
The city of Tanis, which you may know from Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark, was once the capital city of Ancient Egypt but has long been lost to the sands of the desert. That was until infrared satellite images of the region were taken, and revealed not only the location but the layout and remains, of Tanis!! Yay!!

5. A Fire in the Ocean
NASA has a number of satellites that continuously look at the earth, but one noticed something quite strange in 2017. Its probe, the Suomi NPP, has thermal imaging capabilities and was taking images of Brazil to monitor the development of forest fires across the country. Each hotspot can be seen on the map in red- which shows how many fires are taking place at any time.

4. Giant A Hole
Finally, here's a perfect example of a neighborly rivalry that’s been caught on camera, and one that can still be seen on Google Maps! Occasionally, someone finds a hilarious image that the satellite imaging has picked up on, and that’s what happened when one user was looking at Sequim, Washington. As you can see, in the field is probably the world’s biggest A-hole!

10. Violet Sabrewing
One of the most abundant species of hummingbird in the Americas, the Violet Sabrewing, can be found in mountainous forests from southern Mexico all the way south to western Panama. While most people associate the word “hummingbird” with a tiny and dainty specimen, the Violet, is in actual fact, a large and spectacular birdie reaching the approximate size of a sparrow.

9. Iridescent Shark
If you’re wondering why you may have never heard of this shark before, it’s probably because it isn’t really a shark. It’s a species of shark catfish but looks kind of like a shark to some degree. They are native to rivers of Southeast Asia and are bred for their meat known as swai. They have been spreading around the world and environmental groups have begun to find them in rivers in Colombia, South America and they are very worried it could become a threat to endangered species.

8. Blue Morpho Butterfly
These winged beauties are labeled as one of the most emblematic and beloved of all the butterfly species because of their size and vivid blue coloring. These shimmering wings reflect the light making the Blue Morpho butterfly easy to spot in the Amazon Rainforest. They are found in forests throughout Central and South America, and at six inches long with a wingspan of about 20 centimeters, they are recognized as one of the largest butterflies in the world.

7. Sea Sapphire
These tiny critters look like gemstones flashing in the sun! Known as the Sapphirina copepod, they are also called the rice of the sea since they are at the bottom of the food chain! Some people think they are the most beautiful ocean creature in the world.

6. Cuckoo Wasp
Also known as emerald wasps, these guys definitely grab your attention, even though they are no larger than the average housefly. It moves fast and has a beautiful iridescent blue-green color. Unfortunately, the Cuckoo Wasp is actually a parasite, and just like the Cuckoo bird, they lay their eggs in the nests of other species, usually bees and other wasps. Hence the name.

5. Sunbeam Snake
Sunbeam snakes prefer humidity and dampness, and usually live in damp, loose soil near water, and are mostly found in Southeast Asia. These snakes are known for their highly iridescent scales, and while the head scales are made up of larger plates, the ventral scales are slightly smaller. They usually emerge at dusk to feast on amphibians, snakes, rodents, and carrion (so basically everything).

If we are going to be technical, the correct terminology here would actually be Peafowl – where the male is the Peacock, and the female is called a Peahen. (But I wouldn’t really worry about that, because no one goes around saying “peafowl” anyway!

3. Paua Snail (Abalone)
Paua is a Maori name that is appointed to three species of edible sea snails. These sea slugs are most commonly found in shallow coastal waters along the rocky shorelines in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, the west coast of the US, and South Africa. The massive sea snails feed on seaweed and survive the strong ocean tides by clinging to rocks, using their large muscular foot.

2. Jewel Beetle
Jewel Beetles have been prized for their beauty since ancient times, especially in Asia. Their iridescence is their trademark, and these critters come in varying shades of red, blue, orange, green, yellow, and black. The beetle sheds its exoskeleton when it molts, revealing a brand new, sparkly outer plate!

Found in the coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific and oceans, from Japan all the way to Australia, the Blue-ringed Octopus may be tiny, but this little guy is one of the most venomous animals in the world!!
They can range from the size of a golf ball to the size of a human hand, and their brownish-yellow coloring helps them blend into their surroundings.

8. Mercury’s Temperature Swings
As the only planet in our Solar System without any tilt, Mercury technically lacks seasons. But don’t let this fool you - the planet’s conditions are not consistent throughout its 88-day year. Due to its highly elliptical orbit, Mercury does, in fact, experience dramatic temperature changes and its own versions of summer and winter.

7. VENUS’ SNOW
Did you know that it snows on Venus? Well, sort of. The planet’s version of “snow” is a shimmery dust made of heavy metals and minerals. During the month of July, Venus peaks at a temperature of around 900 degrees Fahrenheit (482 C) and the atmosphere is dry.

Enceladus is one of Saturn’s moons. It’s also one of the brightest moons in our Solar System, because it’s covered in freshwater ice, which reflects sunlight.
Scientists are still learning about Enceladus and about Saturn. Astronomer William Herschel discovered the glowing moon,which measures 500 kilometers in diameter, in 1789. However, until the two Voyager missions flew past it during the 1980’s, relatively little was known about it.

Unlike the other places on this list, it’s highly unlikely that scientists will ever send a spacecraft to this planet to collect data on its weather phenomena. The planet, simply titled HD 189733b, is located 63 light years away from Earth, and it would take a spacecraft centuries to get there.

With no thermal blanket and an atmosphere 100 times thinner than that of Earth, Mars hosts one of the most inhospitable climates in our Solar System. These conditions render the planet incapable of retaining heat energy, resulting in shockingly cold weather and drastic fluctuations in temperatures between night and day, as well as from one season to the next.

3. IO’S MISPLACED VOLCANOES
Hundreds of active volcanoes dot the landscape of Io, one of Jupiter’s many moons, making it the most volcanically active place in the Solar System. Some of the lava fountains from these highly-active volcanoes up to 250 miles into the sky.

2. 21-YEAR SEASONS ON URANUS
Uranus holds the distinction of being the coldest planet in the Solar System, with temperatures dropping as low as minus 371 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s also unique because its spin axis is tilted by 98 degrees, meaning it spins entirely on its side. As a result, the planet’s poles do not align with its magnetic field.

In 2011, NASA announced that a bizarre green rainshower had been observed over a burgeoning star called HOPS-68 some 1,350 light years away using their Spitzer Space Telescope. The crystal droplets were a mineral called olivine, which is often used here on Earth to make jewelry, and it was the first time they were observed in the collapsing clouds of dust that surround forming stars.

8. INTERNATIONAL CRYPTOZOOLOGY MUSEUM
The world’s only international cryptozoology museum is located in Portland, Maine, and it’s ranked by TIME Magazine as the seventh weirdest museum on the planet. Cryptozoology is the study of animals or creatures whose existence has not been proven, such as Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, just to name a few. You get the idea!

7. SULABH INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF TOILETS
Located in New Delhi, India, the Sulabh International Museum of Toilets traces the past 4,500 years of the history of the commode. The museum is run by Sulabh International, a social service organization that is dedicated to the history of sanitation and toilets. It’s ranked number three among TIME’s list of the 10 weirdest museums in the world.

6. MUSEUM OF BAD ART
The Museum of Bad Art, or MOBA for short, is self-described as the world’s only museum dedicated to “bad art in all its forms,” and the slogan on its website is “art too bad to be ignored.” In its official mission statement, the museum, which claims to occupy “a niche previously ignored in the international community of art collection, preservation, and interpretation,” asserts its goal to celebrate the work of artists whose creations would not be “displayed or appreciated” in any other forum.

5. THE MUSEUM OF BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia began as “a traveling exhibition revolving around the concept of failed relationships and their ruins.” It’s located in the Upper Town, a culturally rich and historical part of Zagreb that is also a popular tourist area. Admission is 40 Croatian kunas, which is the equivalent of about $6.08 in U.S. currency.

4. TRAVELING MUSEUM OF THE PARANORMAL & OCCULT
The Traveling Museum of the Paranormal & Occult has been around since 2013 and claims to be the only traveling museum of its kind.
